In the afternoon of January 12, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, who is on an official visit to China, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
Xi Jinping pointed out that China attaches great importance to the development of China-Belgium relations. Over the 53 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Belgium, fruitful cooperation in various fields has benefited both peoples. China and Belgium are both beneficiaries of economic globalization and share common interests in resisting protectionism and upholding free trade. China appreciates Prime Minister De Croo's public statements opposing "decoupling," welcomes Belgian enterprises to invest and operate in China, is willing to provide them with a good business environment, and hopes that Belgium will offer a fair, transparent, and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese enterprises. Both sides can leverage their respective advantages to expand cooperation in traditional fields such as transportation and logistics, biopharmaceuticals, and explore new growth points in green development and the digital economy. Both sides should encourage exchanges and dialogues between government departments, legislatures, and local provinces and cities, expand two-way tourism and student exchanges, jointly organize large-scale cultural activities, conduct giant panda conservation research, continuously enhance mutual understanding and people-to-people friendship, and inject new impetus and expand new prospects into China-Belgium relations. China is willing to strengthen communication with Belgium within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations and cooperate on issues such as climate change and biodiversity conservation.
Xi Jinping emphasized that China's policy towards Europe remains long-term and stable, always regarding Europe as China's cooperation partner. China hopes that Europe, as an important force in a multipolar world, will play a positive and constructive role. In the face of a complex international situation, more "bridges" are needed between China and Europe. The two sides should cooperate more closely to promote equal and orderly world multipolarity and inclusive economic globalization, jointly promote global peace, stability, and prosperity. China is willing to work with Europe to ensure steady progress in China-Europe relations in the new year, and hopes that Belgium, as the rotating presidency of the European Union, will play an active role in this regard.
