On the evening of January 9th, the fourth episode of the TV special "Sustained Efforts, Deep Advancement" titled "Simultaneously Promoting the 'Three No Corruptions'" was broadcasted. This episode focused on a series of corruption cases in the field of football, featuring confessions from Du Zhaocai, former Deputy Director of the State General Administration of Sport and former Party Secretary of the Chinese Football Association; Chen Xuyuan, former Chairman of the Chinese Football Association; and Li Tie, former head coach of the China national football team.
The special revealed that, in order to become the head coach of the men's national football team, Li Tie, on one hand, persuaded the club to lobby for him and promised to repay the club in various ways if he could "ascend" to the position. The club paid 2 million yuan as a bribe to Chen Xuyuan for this purpose. On the other hand, Li Tie believed that Liu Yi, then the Secretary-General of the Football Association, had considerable influence, so he personally gave 1 million yuan to Liu Yi.
The day after confirming his appointment as the head coach of the men's national football team, Li Tie flew to Wuhan to negotiate with the club. Li Tie and the club signed a so-called "contract" with a total amount of 60 million yuan, which was just a cover to conceal the nature of the deal involving power and money. Shortly afterward, he quickly selected four players from the club to be included in the national team's roster.
